"A cat will look down to a man. A dog will look up to a man. But a pig will look you straight in the eye and see his equal" (Sir Winston Churchill).

The author of this quote certainly knew what he was saying for he was very fond of cats. А black one called Nelson, used to sit in a chair next to Churchill in both the Cabinet & dining rooms and although he was named after Lord Nelson he wasn't nearly as brave. Sir Winston allowed Nelson to jump onto the dining table where he would serve him cream. Churchill often worked in bed in the mornings, with Nelson on the bed keeping him warm. Another black he owned was a stray  called Margate  found on the steps of  #10 Downing Street.
But Sir Winston also owned ginger cats (that made my heart melt) - one called Tango used to wait for the PM on the steps. In 1962 Churchill was given another ginger cat by Jock Colville. Since then there has always been a ginger cat at Chartwell and it is always called 'Jock'.   This cat attended many Cabinet meetings.  Rumor has it that meals at the Churchill household could not begin until the ginger colored tom was at the table. Churchill used to refer to Jock as his special assistant and he was reported to be on the bed with his master on the day the great British statesman died...

Аўтар гэтых радкоў дакладна ведаў, што казаў, бо быў сапраўдным кашатнікам. Аднаго з яго любімцаў клікалі Нэльсанам. Нягледзячы на такую мянушку, храбрасьці ня вельмі хапала, але ж ён заўсёды сядзеў побач з Чэрчылем у кабінеце і за сталом, на які мог беспакарана заскочыць, і сэр Уінстан частаваў яго сьмятанкай.  А калі прэм'ер зраніцы працаваў у ложку, то Нэльсан быў за грэлку. Яшчэ адна чорненькая, Маргэйт,  проста прыблудзіла на Даўнінг-стрыт.
Але мяне скарыла тое, што ў сэра Уінстана былі рыжыя каты. Аднаго клікалі Танга, ён заўсёды сустракаў прэм'ера. А ў 1962 Джок Колвіл падараваў Чэрчылю іншага рыжага. З таго часу ў Чартвэле заўсёды жывуць рыжыя каты з мянушкай Джок.  Гэты кот бываў на шмат якіх паседжаньнях кабінэту. Па чутках, у доме Чэрчыля ніхто не сядаў есьці, калі за сталом не было рыжага кацяры. Сэр Уінстан называў Джока сваім спецыяльным асыстэнтам. Кот быў верны свайму гаспадару да апошняга моманту, і быў побач, калі вялікі брытанскі палітык паміраў...
